Benfica Museum - Cosme Damião

The Benfica Museum – Cosme Damião is found near to Estádio da Luz¹, the football cathedral of Sport Lisboa e Benfica. It was inaugurated on the July 26^th, 2013, by the President Luís Filipe Vieira, leader of the club for more than a decade.

The museum's name appears as a strong homage to one of the 24 founders of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Cosme Damião. On the February 28^th, 1904, at the Farmácia Franco², the founders gathered in meeting and together created the proceedings that made official the creation of the club.

Since that time, Benfica grew and became the club with the largest number of associates in the world. Cosme Damião was at Benfica a player, coach, journalist, founder, occupying numerous relevancy positions in the club's history. He coached it for 18 seasons and never assumed the presidency by his own will, preferring to breathe the club closer to the pitch.

The facilities of the Benfica Museum - Cosme Damião have three floors, ground floor and two upper ones. Here, visitors can see about a thousand trophies of all sports and more than 20.000 pieces belonging to the club's collection. Since the foundation until the present, it is possible to remember legendary names like Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, known as King or Pantera Negra³ or Mário Coluna, the Monstro Sagrado⁴. There are also in exhibition the Cups of European Champion of 1960/1961 e 1961/1962 that Benfica won consecutively, having been this the epitome of Benfica's football.

The museum has an interactive area for supports, named Viagem ao Coração dos Benfiquistas⁵.
