São Roque Museum

The São Roque Museum is located beside the Igreja de São Roque, at the Largo Trindade Coelho. It opened doors on the January 11^th of 1905, at the time with the designation of Museu do Tesouro da Capela de São João Baptista² due to the collection of religious art original from Italy. This space is housed in the former Casa Professa da Companhia de Jesus³, dated from the 16^th century.

In the museum, visitors will find five centers allusive to different themes: Hermitage of São Roque, Company of Jesus, Oriental Art, Chapel of São João Baptista and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.

About the hermitage, built in 1506, possesses a relic of São Roque that there was kept. In the orient art room , there are works of religious art of the Companhia de Jesus and Asian pieces, due to the cultural exchange held with these people.

About the chapel, are exhibited jewelry pieces and vestments (adornment pieces). Finally, at the center of Santa Casa da Misericórdia⁴, exist art works that allow visitors to know the history of the organization throughout time.
