While descending the Calçada do Marquês de Tancos1 on Colina do Castelo2, we find an entrance to an open air area, to the left, location of the current Viewpoint of Chão do Loureiro.
This is the former building of Mercado do Chão do Loureiro3, recently rebuilt and transformed into a car parking with a terrace housing a viewpoint, a restaurant/cafe and a panoramic lift to transport passersby until Largo do Chão do Loureiro4.
The low height of the viewpoint and the proximity with other buildings doesn't favor the panoramic, however, there are some points of interest deserving a highlight like the Elevador de Santa Justa5 which is found at the same height in front of us, the Convento do Carmo6 to its right and the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara7 on top of Colina de São Roque8.
To the left we sight the building tops of Baixa Pombalina that majorly compose the parish of Santa Maria Maior, the Tagus River and its south margin with Cacilhas standing out. Far away we detect the counties of Seixal, Barreiro and Montijo.
