Viewpoint of Chão do Loureiro

While descending the Calçada do Marquês de Tancos¹ on Colina do Castelo², we find an entrance to an open air area, to the left, location of the current Viewpoint of Chão do Loureiro.

This is the former building of Mercado do Chão do Loureiro³, recently rebuilt and transformed into a car parking with a terrace housing a viewpoint, a restaurant/cafe and a panoramic lift to transport passersby until Largo do Chão do Loureiro⁴.

The low height of the viewpoint and the proximity with other buildings doesn't favor the panoramic, however, there are some points of interest deserving a highlight like the Elevador de Santa Justa⁵ which is found at the same height in front of us, the Convento do Carmo⁶ to its right and the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara⁷ on top of Colina de São Roque⁸.

To the left we sight the building tops of Baixa Pombalina that majorly compose the parish of Santa Maria Maior, the Tagus River and its south margin with Cacilhas standing out. Far away we detect the counties of Seixal, Barreiro and Montijo.
