Museum of Underwater Life and Submerged History

The Museum of Underwater Life and Submerged History (in portuguese, Museu da Vida Subaquática e da História Submersa) is located in the museum center of the head office of the Centro Português de Atividades Subaquáticas (CPAS), founded in 1953.

Along the years and through its activity, the center gathered archaeological objects from the bottom of the sea an rivers that gave origin to three collections: Roman Collection, Collection Concheiro Salamanza and Collection Cape Verde. Were also collected from the sea several typical species of marine life such as corals, tropical seashells, the Portuguese coast seashells and well preserved fossils. To the inventory of this collection entered the diving gear that made possible to rescue the submerged items.

In 1969, the CPAS offered its collection to the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa with the noble purpose of creating a museum-space without parallel in Portugal.

Unable to find and concretize a permanent museum, the Centro Português de Atividades Subaquáticas divulges on the internet and at its head office. Despites the setbacks, the CPAS exhibits proudly on its website the motto that drives them to achieve the implementation of a museum:
