About the Beach
What is Praia do Areal Beach?
It's an Oceanic Beach in the northern hemisphere bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, located on the coast of Portugal - Iberian Peninsula - in the municipality of Lourinhã.
Praia do Areal Beach is also known as Praia da Areia Sul Beach, according to the Plano de Ordenamento da Orla Costeira Alcobaça-Mafra1.
The sand is very extensive and sea conditions are very favorable for surf practice.
In the north area there's a small dune system and at center and south, a cliff claims the scenery.
A dirt open area used for car parking lies beside Aeródromo da Lourinhã2.
The main access to the beach is done by the north side despite the existence of a trail down the cliff to the south in an area known by Praia do Mexilhoal Beach.
