About the Beach
What is Praia de Afife Beach?
It's an Oceanic Beach in the northern hemisphere bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, located on the coast of Portugal - Iberian Peninsula - in the municipality of Viana do Castelo.
Praia de Afife Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the north of Portugal due to its much appreciated extensive and white sand.
Up north there are numerous rock formations near the water line. In the central area the Ribeira de Cabanas1, commonly known as Rio Afife2, flows into the ocean.
Water sports enthusiasts frequently come to this beach where surf and bodyboard events often take place.
It holds the Blue Flag since 1987, when it was first implemented in Europe.
