About the Beach
What is Praia Grande Beach?
It's an Oceanic Beach in the northern hemisphere bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, located on the coast of Portugal - Iberian Peninsula - in the municipality of Lagoa.
Praia Grande Beach, also known as Praia de Ferragudo Beach, hosts the Rio Arade1 waters near to its mouth. The sand is wide and very long.
Sea waters are calm due to the protection provided by the piers from the river bar.
The cliff surrounding the beach has its top covered by greenish pines.
At north, the Castelo de São João de Arade or Forte de São João do Arade2 brings memories of distant times and beautifies the landscape.
From here, Marina de Portimão3 can be sighted on the opposite side of the river.
